This is my second feedback on this purchase.The order of Birdola birdseed cakes was received in a timely fashion.As I opened the box, I was sad to see that four of the 12 cakes was crushed and in pieces.The pieces had been rewrapped in cellophane to keep them together.Someone in the shipping process must have seen the broken bits and wrapped them in the plastic wrap.They are unusable in that shape.For a full 30% of the order to be unusable is quite extreme.I'm not happy.

Looker OBC Bat-Triple Chamber House Review

I looked at several bat houses before buying this one.I chose this particular bat house because it is made to the Organization For Bat Conservation Specifications. Some of the other bat houses that I looked at online did not indicate that they were built according to the same standards. For instance, most did not indicate if they were properly caulked or even constructed with screws rather than nails.

To be upfront, I was initially going to buy a bat house from the Organization for Bat Conservation itself. (The organization was recommended to me by an article in a national gardening magazine on attracting bats to your garden to control insects). However, the organization's bat houses and bat house kits are sold as fund raisers, so they cost a bit more than I was hoping to pay. I looked up their specifications for building bat houses, but decided that it would be easier for me to find something on amazon.com that fit the specifications rather than build my own.

This company was the only one I found that clearly stated whether they followed the organization's recommendations. Some of the other boxes were built to other standards, such as to Audubon Society Standards, which would probably be OK too. However, most of the other vendors listed how easy it would be to attract bats with their boxes without giving an ounce of information on how well their products were constructed. Unfortunately, the reviews for the other boxes did not give much information on construction either. This one met the construction standards that I was looking for, had more than one chamber, and was reasonably priced for the quality.

The bat house arrived on time and well-packed. It also came with some literature on whether or not the bat house ought to be painted/stained - and if so, what color. Again, this is consistent with what I found through the Bat Conservation website (www.batcon.org). The same literature included information on hanging, maintenance, and how long it may take before the bats move in.Overall, I am satisfied and would recommend the product to others.However, be aware that it does not come with a pole and it comes unstained/unpainted. (Granted, this appears to be consistent with all of the other bat houses available online, so I don't view it as a problem).

CORN SQUIRREL LOG 2/PK Review

My squirrels wouldn't even touch this item. After sitting on the feeder for two weeks, I finally took it off, broke it up into pieces and put it on the ground.I thought the birds might like it or the squirrels might pick the pieces up off of the ground, but they didn't. Bird lovers should note that the $1.29 price quoted is "per cake" and the item is sold in a 12-pack only ($15.48 total, plus $9.75 shipping = $25.23.) This works out to an unimpressive 18% savings, further reduced by a high shipping charge. Do not be misled into thinking, as I was, that the 12-pack is $1.29 + $9.75 shipping = $11.04 (works out to $0.92 per cake, which would be a great price, similar to Xmas Tree Shops.) I placed an order thru Amazon, put $11.05 on my Mastercard, and received one suet cake in a padded envelope. I do not call $11.05 for a single suet cake a terrfic buy -- in fact, I'd call it a rip-off. I called Grady's several times and was continually referred to someone who wasn't in the store that day. After several attempts, they agreed to credit the full price, and said not to bother returning the item. Okay ! They also agreed that the ad was misleading and they'd fix it. Okay ! Except the credit was never processed, and the ad remains the same. I had to follow-up several times 4 weeks later, asking if the credit had been processed. This, my feathered friends, is a lot of work for a suet cake. Finally, I took it up with Amazon, and they issued the credit. I would not recommend dealing with this vendor. I would highly recommend Nottawa Bird Supply (they have a website), that sells a high-quality product in a variety pack with free shipping. Forget Grady's -- they certainly do not warrant top placement on anyone's page.

Illum. Hanging Blue Swirl BB / BF (Must order in 4's) Review

It is VERY pretty, we're pleased with the appearance overall, matches out bird feeder post's finish, looks very elegant on it. But it doesn't glow in darkness as advertised, not at all. Disappointing. We decided to keep it though, it shall serve the main purpose. And who knows, it may decide to glow for us over the summer. We just got it last weekend, and saw few birds started using it, not too many yet, so far. They happily use the feeder itself, which we have on the next hook 1 foot away, but ignoring the bath. They probably need some time to find a new item safe to use. Besides water is more widely available now than in Winter.

Another con was that the hanging hook is really small - the picture is quite deceptive. My husband had to make another hook for it to fit onto our post. Overall is not bad though, price is medium. I had to pay for shipping too, wished Amazon to carry more garden products for Prime membership. I always hesitate to buy from other vendors than Amazon itself. Shipping cost is a factor of course, but troubles with possible returns don't appeal at all.

Natureline Bluebird House Review

I love this bluebird house. My husband positioned it on a high plastic pole in our backyard in a place where I can watch the birds. He also hung two feeders and a water container on another pole near the house but about 10 feet away so this houses occupants wouldn't be disturbed. I had doubts it would be used the first year. I would watch 2 sets of bluebirds checking the house out, they would sit on top of it and also cling to the entrance and poke their heads in and out. Then fly off. Then they would come back and do it again.This went on for a while. Then a blue bird male and female moved in.. I was thrilled. We had three babies the first year they moved in. I would advise to definitely make sure your pole is at the least 6 foot tall and a baffle placed under it. Make sure all branches or brush are trimmed away from this house as the birds won't use it if they feel threatened. Our biggest problem at our house is the neighbors cat. So we make sure our dogs are in the yard to scare the cat off as the neighbor refuses to keep the cat in.

If you look closely at the picture you can see it's one flaw: the mounting bracket fits at an upward angle. To level the dish you have to leave the screw loose. I wanted something the puppy would not knock off the bars and spill, so this is a bit of an annoyance.

Pine Tree Farms 12 Ounce Natural Beef Suet Cake Review

This plain, pure suet is a good product if you have nuisance birds like house sparrows or starlings hogging your suet, which often happens when the suet contains peanuts, corn or millet.

Having said that, $8+ dollars a cake plus $7+ for shipping is pretty outrageous. I can buy this item at the local birding supply store for a little over $5 a cake, including state and city sales tax. I was hoping to find it cheaper than that on Amazon, but it doesn't seem likely.

Millet Spray Holder Review

When I first saw this contraption, I was skeptical; but since I got it for $1.99, I figured if it didn't work I wouldn't be out much. This was a nice surprise. I was expecting it to be blue, but the one I got is a pale yellow. At first, my budgies, Jake and Stella didn't pay much attention to it. Honestly, I think Jake may have been a little afraid of it. When there was no activity with the holder after a few hours, I tried a new tactic. This thing works much better if you cram two millet sprays into it instead of one. It pushes the sprays up against the sides of the basket and makes access to the seeds much easier. Once they get the hang of eating out of it, the holder works great. It also solves the problem of Stella ripping the sprays apart for sheer entertainment. She would tear at the stem until it was completely bare, eating little or none of the seed. Poor Jakey didn't used to even get a chance to eat any of the millet, unless he picked it out of the bottom of the cage. This thing slows Stella down considerably and she doesn't guard it from Jake the way she would a bare spray. A great solution if you have a millet monster like I do!

Beautiful birdhouse with cute little details. But not made for outdoor use. After one year in the backyard it is rotting. Little parts fall off. If you spend so much money on a product this should not happen. I gave it as a gift to someone and am very disappointed. I once contacted Home Bazaar and asked about a product they would recommend that one could use to protect the paint from the rain but never heard back from them. For a product made in China and not holding up to outdoor conditions it is overpriced. DO NOT BUY!

Illuminarie Solar Globe Review

I bought this globe based on the image that accompanied the Amazon ad. In it was shown a deep glowing ball at dusk casting a blue hue to nearby objects and so I naturally assumed that's what I was getting. Instead I got a globe that looks like a plastic beachball during the day and glows for about 10 minutes at night. And when I say glows I'm really stretching - you'd have to be pretty good at seeing in the blackness of night to even know it was glowing.

Not a fan of having to squint at things that are supposed to "glow in the dark". As a daylight garden object d'art it's barely passable - very disappointed with this item.

*** Additional - the above review must have been written by someone with a vested interest in this product since that's the only item they reviewed - glowingly I might add (arf). Suggesting a glow in the dark item should have a bulb placed in or near it is the single most ridiculous thing I've heard this week. But it sort of proves that this product does NOT glow in the dark and should not be advertised as such. ***
