Just so's everyone's clear - THE GLASS IS RED to attract the hummingbirds. You do NOT add food coloring to the nectar recipe which causes health problems in the hummers. This is important.
This is another piece of art for the backyard. We have several items from Schrodt Designs in use in the backyard and have received "oohs" and "ahhs" from guests on them. They are beautifully crafted.
We hung this outside our dining room window. At (our) mealtimes we enjoy watching the energetic little birds. And maybe they are amused by watching us!

Bird Brain, Crackle Hummingbird Feeder, Yellow Review

I love these feeders as the glass is easy to use a bleach solution to sterilize with no lingering bleach smell.This purchase was my third in this style.However, the picture shows the glass feeding tubes (they are ~$6 plus shipping each to replace, available on another site).The feeder I received came with plastic feeding flowers, not the glass as shown. Classic Large Nyjer Thistle Sock Review

Most plastic bird feeders that you see have small spokes for the birds to sit on and holes where the seeds fall out. I've found that a great deal of the seed is lost to the ground when multiple birds are feeding.This 'thistle sock' is composed of a thick material that won't break apart.It may not be as attractive as most feeders, but it sure attracts birds.It took about two weeks before I saw any activity, but then the finches arrived on a daily basis, clinging to the sock and feeding heartily.I've seen robins as well.The sock is hearty enough to allow for the birds to grasp with their claws without opening up holes and they really do stick around to pull out the seeds.Not only is this fun to watch, but my cat goes absolutely nuts.This is a great inexpensive feeder.

Verdigris Garden Centerpiece Birdbath Bird Feeder Patio Review

It's a cute ideal bird bath but very tall and light bottomed.The flower pots should help weigh it down but it doesn't.So, since I live in windy KS, I had to bury the base in dirt to keep it from blowing over.However, I didn't even have it up for 24 hrs and it broke.It is GARBAGE!!A pice of plastic garbage!

1 Quart Stainless Steel Goldfinch Feeder Review

I ordered this after going through many fabric "socks". The fabric ones were being chewed by some bird or mammal so had to be replaced constantly. This unit fixed that problem. It doesn't hold quite as much as it looks - less than one of the fabric socks I was using. It does leak quite a bit when filling it - I have to hold it over a container to avoid losing the expensive nyjer seed. Not sure to what extent seed leaks as it sits out. The goldfinches adapted quickly to it, and empty it out in a little over a day. I haven't seen other critters/birds on it, such as house sparrows or squirrels.

To release the top you just pull on it, and push it back in to close. It stays on just by friction. I was a little concerned that it might just open on its own while hanging, but so far (2 months) we haven't had a problem.

Be careful when closing the top. The wires that keep the top attached to the housing push back in along the sides of the tube. If you're holding the tube near the top the wires can jab your hand - I got a cut the first time refilling it. Hold it near the bottom instead.

The unit doesn't come with any hanger, so plan on having some location with a hook where you can hang the feeder.

Bird Brain Model 12240 Friendship Hummingbird Feeder Review

This is a fairly pretty, small hummingbird feeder.It is quite delicate, and is high maintenance as you have to keep it at least half full for the feeding tubes to reach the liquid, so since it's so small, you will have to fill it often.I will probably give it as a gift; too much fuss for me.

Homestead Step In Bird Feeder Pole-Green 16 x 8 x 3 inches Review

This pole is hard to assemble.The pieces don't fit together very well.You have to use a rubber mallet and have some patience.However, once the thing was put together, you just jab it into the ground.I would reccommend a wooden bird feeder for easiest installation.Just put in a couple of wood screws and you're done.

MiniBlossom Hummingbird Feeder Aqua on Stake Review

I love the look of this feeder, and it attracts hummingbirds just as well as the less aesthetically pleasing plastic feeders.However, it is VERY hard to keep ants from invading.The "upside down umbrella moats" will work given a few conditions.First, if you are using a planter as a base, the leaves of plants are very hard to keep below the moat.Due to the weight of the feeder and the flimsiness of the stake, it is very hard to position it so that it doesn't lean into a branch (a.k.a ant bridge).Second, the moats (sold separately) are usually black which causes the small amount of water it will hold to evaporate rapidly.Third, the moat used as an upside down umbrella have to be rigged so that they are water tight (I used some tile caulk).They are sold with the intent that petroleum jelly or something similar can fill them, but in my experience, this only provides an obstacle, not a barricade.If you are creative and like to solve little problems, then this feeder is really beautiful.If not, I would opt for the hanging feeders which are equally as beautiful.You can use a similar stake and then hang your feeder if you do not have anything to hang your feeder from (which is why I bought this particular feeder in the first place).If you have the time, come up with a creative moat of your own.Here's my idea, use a large vase, partially fill with cement (or the like) and place your stake while still wet.For added support, I filled the rest of the vase with matching different sized glass pebbles and sand for extra support.You might want to put some marbles or glass in the cement portion as well.You can then fill the vase with water, and voila you have a light reflecting ant moat!(I recommend treating the water to prevent mosquitos from breeding)To sum it up, I rate this high in form but not so great in function.By the way, I bought a teal feeder for my mom and a red for myself, and the teal really reflects the sunlight better, making the glass appear more vibrant.

This Squirrel Scatter feeder is a very simple solution.We have it hanging on a branch outside our second-story window.It only takes one or two experiences with the shock from this feeder and even the most determined squirrel will leave it alone.Every now and then a squirrel will stop back and very carefully attempt to eat from the feeding ports.The mild shock immediately sends him scrambling away.The construction quality also seems quite good.Highly recommended.

Best 1 8 oz. Hummingbird Feeder Review

This is a small hummingbird feeder that would be great for those just trying their hand at attracting hummingbirds. It's inexpensive and easy to maintain, but most of all, the hummers love it! My wife and I have three hummingbird feeders: this one, a Schrodt - Crystal Single Etched Hummingbird Lantern, and another model with 6 tulip-shaped feeder holes. Though it's not one of the prettier feeders, the Best-1 is the one we paid the least for and it's the feeder they seem to prefer. There are no yellow flowers to attract yellow jackets, and they really seem to like to perch more on this one. Since it's a glass bottle design, you'll need a bottle brush to clean it well inside, but the lid pops off of the red base to make that part very easy to clean.

Older models of this feeder did not have the built-in ant moat (depressed ring around lid of base), so if you buy one locally, make sure it has that feature. With a small feeder like this one, you'll be filling it often enough anyway, so pouring a little water in that ring every few days is all it takes to keep the ants away.

Avant Garden 8310-2 Landmark Hummingbird Feeder Review

After doing searches and reading all the reviews, we opted for this feeder because it claimed to be metal and glass (the description reads: "Rising up from its hand finished metal base cover, its fluted glass nectar container is accented with a beautiful red tint"). Our spot is very sunny and we are not interested in investing on plastic trash that would last 3 years max and then crack. This feeder has a glass bottle that sits upside down on the metal part, but for some strange reason, the bottom of the bottle where the whole thing hangs from is made from plastic that is glued onto the glass, not something you can replace. Anyways, if you are looking for a feeder that can resist lots of sun and temperature variations, you are better off skipping this model. If you are the manufacturer, you should not deceive people with wrong facts in the description of your products.

This feeder is made of plastic - the only metal on it is the hanger.The feeding holes inserts are made of a soft plastic, and the birds and squirrels pecked and chewed through it within two days.

The product description states "with plastic top and wooden perches", but this is not so - everything is plastic.The feeder that this one was to replace had metal inserts and a metal top on a plastic body, and lasted almost 10 years.

In summary: the purchase of this feeder was a total waste of money - 100% junk!

Le Petit Chalet Newel Post for Bird Houses and Feeders Review

If you are going to keep this birdhouse on your deck or patio I might recommend this product, but otherwise it's not really made for in the dirt applications.Actually, come to think of it, the stand is not very sturdy so it will easily tip in the wind even if you did mount it on a deck or patio.So I suppose I would not recommend it at all unless you are keeping it inside for decretive purposes.

I bought this stand to go with my expensive new birdhouse and the holes were not drilled in the right spots (birdhouse holes were 4.5" apart, stand was 5" apart) so I had to improvise.Then I had to wrap it in plastic, dig a hole and bury it in the dirt.Why you ask?Because the whole thing is made of wood which will rot, and there are no mounting spikes or ties that come with it for in the dirt applications - which I imagine has got to be like 90% of their market.I suppose I expected that by looking at the picture, but I chose this anyway because it was good looking with my birdhouse from le petit chalet.That's the reason for not giving it one star.

Single Cake Upside Down Suet Feeder w/Hanging Cable Review

In the beginning the grackles were frustrated feathery creatures when this was first introduced
to my back yard feeder. My triumphant moment would soon be replaced by expletives that would make mother nature cringe. The grackles have grown comfortable with a quick upside down hang and like the marauding pirates of the flight world that they are, they devour the suet cake in a matter of day's. They've also grown more brazen as I step outside not leaving until I launch a frisbee, soccer ball or any other object that will serve as a willing projectile toward their general direction.. Droll Omni Seed Tray Review

I just purchased my second Omni seed tray and another Droll Yankee peanut feeder, since the first one is working so well after one year. I use the peanut feeders for black oil sunflower seeds and they work wonderfully.No messy tubes to clean and the birds love to cling to the wire and pull out the seeds. The trays catch a lot of the seed and the cardinals come and sit on the trays toeat. A perfect set up.Very durable and even if the deer come by, they can only lick the trays and wish for more.

Strathwood Granite-Finish Bird Feeder Review

It is very pretty and my daughter loves holding the little birdie. It is also nice because it looks heavy, but is actually light. It is made of metal with some kind of faux stone finish that looks good in the garden. BUT if you have hard water like I do, don't use it for a bird bath. It's positively amazing how fast the calcium builds up in a black bird bath. It's much nicer for birdseed. The little birds love hopping up to it and feeding from the edges.

Wingscapes WSBR01 BirdCam Mounting Arm Review

The Wingscapes Birdcam is built like a tank, and is heavy.

For many outdoor situations, this mounting arm is the solution.

Some of my digital camera mounts, clamps, etc were not strong enough to hold this camera without slipping.

I attached the BirdCam Mounting Arm to a spare "shepherd's hook" and I can move it easily around the yard, stomping it into place wherever it suits, then loosen and slide the arm up or down the hookin order to aim the BirdCam at my target for the day. (see my photos above)

Other times, Springtime for instance, I expect to mount it directly to birdhouse posts and aim the camera directly toward the bird house openings.

This is a very good feeder for the price. I gave it a try a try because of the great price and because I was tired of all of the thistle seed that was wasted on the ground using the mesh bag thistle seed feeders.This feeder cuts down on wasted thistle seed.Most of the seed drops into the tray and what doesn't get eaten I just scoop up and put back into the container.It also holds a lot of seed and lets many birds feed comfortably at once. Contech Squirrel Scatter Bird Feeder Review

I found this terrific, but filled with a host of problems you won't soon forget. Not even a day passed before my squirrels popped the lid off the top.There is no electricity at the top to stop them. I spent another $20 and quite a few hours and modified the top and wiring to electrify that as well. Thank goodness I am handy. This could prove frustrating if you are not handy, nor clever too. The birds can't get to the seed at the last 2" from the bottom and that quickly rots and drives the birds away.The inside is especially difficult to clean and I needed a long stick to pry out the damp solidified seed and a lot of patience to clean it.A lot of what looks like metal in the photos is silver painted plastic and while I assembled it right from the box I broke the plastic top off and had to return it for another. Don't plan to hand the metal wire bar in the picture over the branch or you will break the top right off.You need to hang this off a wire. The holes for suspending the metal wire bar are especially poorly designed.The battery cover is attached with tiny screws so be prepared to lose them. All of these problems could have easily been remedied by the staff that designed it. What a shame they didn't. Overall its excellent at keeping squirrels away.I was so inundated with sparrows after the squirrels were gone I scratched my head and wondered what have I done?

Becks Chickadee Bird Feeder Review

I love this feeder and have used it for at least 7 or 8 years. It is great if you want to feed small birds.

I was surprised by the previous reviewer and understand why he did not like it if he tried to clean it by taking it apart. It is not designed to be taken apart and is very easy to clean without doing so. I just open the seed filler slot and spray the entire feeder with a safe cleaner, let it set for a few minutes and than rinse it with a hose and set it aside to dry. Takes almost no time and little effort. I use four of these. This allows me to have two in use while the other 2 are drying.

It is not hard to fill either. I keep my black oil sunflower seed in a large container. I open the seed slot, lay the feeder in the seed and shove the seed in with my other hand. Takes me about ten seconds.

Chickadees, Nuthatches, Titmice and Goldfinches regularly use my feeders. It is not unusual to see four goldfinches feeding at once. House finches who dominated my other feeders can not use this feeder. They try and give up.

I am ordering two more to replace two that have faded from years of use in the direct sun.

Pineapple Bird Feeder Review

I love the pineapple shape and think it adds a welcoming touch to our front yard.In fact I love the look so much that I've decided to use it as art rather than a bird feeder.

I tried using it as a birdfeeder but there were two drawbacks.
1. Sunflower seeds were the only feed large enough not to spill out immediately all over the ground.

Perky Pet FF10 10 inch Metal Finch Feeder, 1 lb capacity Review

I bought 2 of these to replace the sock feeders I have.
It took a day for the goldfinches to realize what it was.
I did shake the feeders a little so that some of the seed would stick out and placed them next to the sock feeders.After 24 hours the finches started to use it.It will hold about 20 finches at a time ( I have the large size) and they look beautiful next to the black metal.
It isn't difficult to see how much food is left if you look straight through the sides.You can also tell by the position of the birds on the tube.

Perky Pet 395 10 inch Sunflower Seed and Peanut Feeder, 1.25 lb capacity Review

For 7 weeks now I have been using this little black plastic feeder with its study metal top.I had filled it halfway with unshelled raw peanuts and halfway with shelled pistachios.It is now almost empty and ready to be filled again.I don't have a lot of birds that come to my yard, but have at least two Chickadees that visit this feeder at least twice daily - they seem to enjoy a few bites of suet, a few bites of peanuts or pistachios from this feeder, and then on they go to the tube feeder for some seed mix. So I have all types of feeders and am not sure if this feeder alone would pull the birds in or not.I have also occasionally seen a Carolina Wren or a Downy Woodpecker at this feeder (when it is more full).Sometimes I see a squirrel spending about 5 minutes to (I guess) lick the peanuts since he can't pull the peanuts through such little holes (unless he is breaking them somehow into smaller pieces).The squirrels seem especially aggressive this season - one broke another feeder but I don't see any way they can break this one - it is built pretty tough.

The reason I gave it only 4 stars is because it didn't come with instructions on how to use the lid so I had to figure that out for myself - it simply lifts straight up on the metal inverted U-shaped bar - pull the inverted U-shaped bar up as far you can first. Then after filling, you just push the lid back down leaving the bar all the way up still.The lid does not lock down and that bothered me at first, but so far no squirrel has been able to lift up the lid despite making several attempts to do so - the bar expands outward some so adds some pressure I guess.I hung it over a small tree limb by forcing the tree limb through the opening of the inverted U-shaped bar. Not sure if this was how I was suppose to hang it but it works for me.

I like being able to offer peanuts and pistachios and have them last a good long while.Since I offer seeds and suet by other means, I think of this as just an "extra snack" feeder which might attract some birds to my yard that I have not seen before.Birdwatching is a hobby of mine and I think if the birds did not enjoy eating from this feeder (even though it may be a bit "challenging") they wouldn't keep coming back.

I ordered this bird feeder for my mother's birthday. She's a bird lover and already has a few feeders but I wanted to get her another one. This one had hit the great Amazon sale price of $16.25 and after reading reviews at other sites and seeing that people thought it was well worth the original retail price, I knew I had to get it at such an awesome sale price.

It arrived today and is definitely of good quality but I learned a lesson...always check the dimensions of everything you purchase. I didn't even think about size and this feeder is HUGE compared to most feeders. :)

For the price I paid, it's more than worth it. I gave it four stars rather than 5 but only because it hasn't been used yet. Once It's used, I'll try to remember to update the review. Based on how it looks, I could give it 5 now.

I bought my wife two of these feeders this season to hang on the front porch of our log home.They are the best looking feeders I've seen for ourdecor, BUT they both leaked like a sieve.I ended up sealing around the base with tub caulk, but it didn't stop the leak for long.And after a couple months of use they began to fall apart.I would definitely NOT recommend these feeders.

Perky Pet Triple Play Pole Set Review

I like that you can plant this as deep as you want, however although it suits my purpose, there could be a little more of a hook because when it is windy things tend to fly off.I haven't tried the pole mount.Nice enough item for the price but to hang a normal size bird feeder I'd recommend something a little sturdier.
