Metal Suet Bird Feed Cage Review

Metal Suet Bird Feed CageIn winter, so many wild creatures came to the suet feeders, that we decided to add two more to our existing two.The two we had were the simple wooden once. They are cheap and inconspicuous, but squirrels have quickly damaged the bottom part. Therefore, we decided to get the metal once, and somewhat more fancy. "Artline Deluxe Metal Suet Cage Feeder" looked nice on the screen, was reasonably priced, and we bought two of them. We have been using them continuously for about 6 weeks. Pros: sturdy cage, strong hanging wire; very easy to wash; and the sun catcher is easily detachable . Cons: (1) too small! I had to cut the plastic sides of the suet cakes to fit them in; (2) a flimsy plastic lock, holding the roof, is no match for the squirrels. We had to hang feeders from thin branches to prevent squirrels from devouring the entire cake in a few hours. Of course, this kind of positioning has prevented bigger birds like woodpeckers above 8", starlings, or gray jays to eat it too.

Be sure to have at least one bird feeder out in winter (cold season), to provide local birds with means of survival.Note:It is always a good idea to feed late autumn through early spring. During warmer months, wildlife should be allowed to find food in their natural habitat. Not only will this preserve the natural balance of all wildlife, but it also assures wild birds won't become depended on being fed (which, if learned during early age, can have devastating results during later years in life, i.e. the inability to properly care for themselves and their offspring without human interference)..
